Addressing Antisemitism: Questions of the Current Moment

When

December 8, 2025
7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Temple Emunah invites you to an evening of learning and conversation with James Carroll, acclaimed author, social critic, and advocate for broad community conversations

As expressions of bigotry and intolerance rise across the United States, James Carroll’s wisdom and moral clarity can help us confront one of the oldest and most enduring forms of hatred — antisemitism. Jim has spent decades detailing the Christian roots of Western antisemitism and the devastating consequences for Jews, across millennia to today, that have ensued. His scholarship, including his groundbreaking analysis of this history, Constantine’s Sword: The Church and the Jews, is sobering, but it also suggests a hopeful way forward: Christians and Jews reckoning with this past and its current manifestations, joined by adherents of other faith traditions, building a shared, respectful, and peaceful future.

It starts with us. Please join us to hear from James Carroll, and to enjoy dinner and discussion with your Lexington neighbors. Registration is required by December 2.

James Carroll, a former Catholic priest and novelist, is the author of Constantine’s Sword: The Church and The Jews: A History. The book, published in 2001, explores the long history of religious antisemitism within the Catholic Church and its impact on Jewish-Christian relations. Carroll’s work has sparked heated debate and calls for a fundamental rethinking of the deepest questions of Christian faith.

This program would take place both in-person and be livestreamed and recorded to reach more people in our communities.

We are excited to bring our communities together!

This program is co-sponsored by Lexington United Against Antisemitism (LUAA) and supported by the Phyllis Klein Thrope Memorial Fund.
