SUMMARY:Addressing Antisemitism: Questions of the Current Moment
DESCRIPTION:Temple Emunah invites you to an evening of learning and convers
ation with James Carroll\, acclaimed author\, social critic\, and advocate
for broad community conversations\nAs expressions of bigotry and intolera
nce rise across the United States\, James Carroll’s wisdom and moral cla
rity can help us confront one of the oldest and most enduring forms of hat
red — antisemitism. Jim has spent decades detailing the Christian roots
of Western antisemitism and the devastating consequences for Jews\, across
millennia to today\, that have ensued. His scholarship\, including his gr
oundbreaking analysis of this history\, Constantine’s Sword: The Church
and the Jews\, is sobering\, but it also suggests a hopeful way forward: C
hristians and Jews reckoning with this past and its current manifestations
\, joined by adherents of other faith traditions\, building a shared\, res
pectful\, and peaceful future.\nIt starts with us. Please join us to hear
from James Carroll\, and to enjoy dinner and discussion with your Lexingto
n neighbors. Registration is required by December 2.\nJames Carroll\, a fo
rmer Catholic priest and novelist\, is the author of Constantine's Sword:
The Church and The Jews: A History. The book\, published in 2001\, explore
s the long history of religious antisemitism within the Catholic Church an
d its impact on Jewish-Christian relations. Carroll's work has sparked hea
ted debate and calls for a fundamental rethinking of the deepest questions
of Christian faith.\nThis program would take place both in-person and be
livestreamed and recorded to reach more people in our communities.\n\nWe a
re excited to bring our communities together!\n\nThis program is co-sponso
red by Lexington United Against Antisemitism (LUAA) and supported by the P
hyllis Klein Thrope Memorial Fund.\n\nQuestions? Contact Terri Swartz Russ
ell\n\nClick here to register for the program
