The Piaseczno Rebbe’s Hashkata (Quieting) PracticeJoin Hebrew College Rabbinic Intern Carrie Watkins after kiddush. We’ll study a letter from a student of Rabbi Kalonymus Kalman Shapira, a Hassidic Rebbe of the Warsaw Ghetto, describing a spiritual meditation practice called the Quieting Practice. This letter is among the most precise descriptions left of a Jewish mindfulness practice, and the story of the letter’s discovery highlights the loss of Jewish spiritual wisdom resulting from the Holocaust. After learning it, we’ll spend some time trying it out for ourselves.
