The Youth Committee is excited to announce that the Temple Emunah Youth department has won a United Synagogue Solomon Schechter Award for Synagogue Excellence. The KNISH youth program received a Silver Award in the Worship & Ritual group.

KNISH (Kadima Noar Interactive Shabbat Hang-out) was
conceived as a 90-minute social program that would serve as a fun and informal corollary to Junior Congregation. Open to students in our 5th- and 6th-grade Kadima youth group and our brand-new 3rd- and 4th grade Noar group, KNISH features a special “kids-only” Kiddush luncheon and games. Congratulations and thanks to Shira Weissbach, Josh Furman, and Shoshana Jacob for conceiving and executing this innovative program.

The award, along with two others won by Temple Emunah, will be formally presented at the Awards Presentation and
Program Fair which will be held at the USCJ Biennial Convention in Orlando, Florida November 29 – December 3, 2007.

The Solomon Schechter Awards, named after the founder of the United Synagogue, have been awarded since 1950. The awards were instituted both to recognize excellence in synagogue programming and to help spotlight models that other synagogues might emulate. This year’s selections were based on a variety of criteria, including imaginative and creative use of resources as well as the program’s impact on the congregation’s membership.
